This vintage sterling silver opal mosaic unicorn pendant necklace dates from the early 1970s and forms part of The Curator’s Cabinet. The oval pendant depicts a rearing unicorn within a simple sterling silver frame, with genuine opal mosaic inlay in a Pietra Dura style.

Tiny fragments of genuine opal are assembled to create the image. The surface shows blues, greens, turquoise and violet, with flashes of light that change as the pendant moves. A high-polish finish allows the mosaic to remain the focus.

The pendant was an early archive acquisition from the 1970s sample years and is described as an authentic survivor from the earliest chapter of the seller’s opal story. It is in excellent vintage condition and is supplied on an 18″ sterling silver curb chain.
