Sterling Silver Shell Brooch with Pink Cubic Zirconia

This hallmarked sterling silver shell brooch belongs to Studio Variations, a series developed after the commercial success of earlier sea-life costume jewellery collections. Made in sterling silver with black rhodium plating, the collection used hundreds of individually hand-set cubic zirconia stones. Its production cost exceeded the original client’s target retail price, and only a handful were produced.

The sculptural shell design is finished in black rhodium and high polish, with individually hand-set pink cubic zirconia arranged in pavé settings. Sweeping silver ribbons move around the shell form, creating contrast between the polished metal and vivid stones.

Studio Variations preserves designs that remained in the studio archive after exceeding target manufacturing costs. Rather than simplify the castings, reduce stone setting or alter the designs, the finished works were retained as created. This brooch is not a prototype; it is a finished work in excellent archive condition. The shell motif is presented through contemporary, ocean-inspired jewellery design.
