This hallmarked sterling silver shell brooch belongs to Studio Variations, a collection of finished designs preserved from the studio archive. Developed after the commercial success of earlier sea-life costume jewellery collections, the series was made in sterling silver with black rhodium plating and hundreds of individually hand-set cubic zirconia stones.
The sculptural shell form is defined by sweeping silver ribbons, with vivid pink cubic zirconia providing contrast against the dark finish. The stones are pavé-set, while a high polish finish brings further light to the surface.
The collection exceeded the original client’s target retail price. Rather than reduce the stone setting, simplify the castings or alter the designs, the pieces were retained as intended. Only a handful were produced.
This is not a prototype, but a finished work from the Studio Variations archive. It is described as contemporary, ocean-inspired jewellery and is in excellent archive condition.
