Large Sterling Silver Van Gogh Enamel Portrait Pillbox

A large round sterling silver pillbox with a hand-painted enamel interpretation of Vincent van Gogh’s self-portrait. Part of The Studio Variations, it uses the compact form of a pillbox as a surface for portraiture, colour and miniature brushwork.

The portrait is created using traditional artisan enamel painting techniques, including layered colour application, kiln-fired finishing, miniature brush detailing and individually finished surfaces. Its swirling brushwork and luminous colour layering are intended to echo painterly movement rather than digital precision.

The smooth silver setting leaves the image at the centre of the design. The circular form gives the portrait a considered presence while retaining the scale of a small object.

Only three examples were produced. This contemporary archive design is described as being made to preserve craftsmanship and artistic processes that are increasingly disappearing from modern production. It is in excellent condition and weighs 65 grams sterling silver.
