Sterling Silver Ruler and Pencil Case Desk Prototype

This sterling silver ruler and pencil case prototype brings measurement and storage together in a single sculptural desk object. Developed during a three-piece men’s accessories project, it was created as part of a private commission for a major international fashion house.

The hybrid form combines a ruler, storage case and conceptual object. Its lidded construction incorporates integrated compartments, while dual markings provide measurements in centimetres and inches. Made from hallmarked British sterling silver with fitted rubber, the piece contains 117 grams of sterling silver.

Produced during development rather than for general release, the prototype records a stage of exploration in which utility, proportion and form were tested before final production decisions. Only a small number were made. Dating from the 2000s–2010s, it remains in excellent condition.

Drawn from The JewelAri Compendium, this work belongs to The Prototyparium, a group of early and experimental works in which ideas first took shape in material. It is suited to desk display or light use, and to those interested in design process objects, industrial design and functional design.
