A sterling silver lobster brooch from the Studio Variations collection, finished in black rhodium and set with red cubic zirconia. The sculptural lobster form follows the segmented shell, antennae, claws and tail, with hundreds of individually hand-set stones bringing colour and contrast to the design.

The series was developed after the commercial success of earlier sea-life costume jewellery collections. Made in sterling silver with black rhodium plating, it was intended as the finest version the studio could create. Its production costs exceeded the client’s target retail price, and rather than simplify the design or reduce the number of stones, the collection was left as originally conceived. Only a handful were produced.

This brooch has a high polish finish and is hallmarked sterling silver. It is described as contemporary marine jewellery and remains in excellent archive condition. Studio Variations brings together finished designs retained in the studio archive after they proved too costly for commercial production.
