Sterling Silver Ruler and Pencil Case Design Prototype

This sterling silver ruler and pencil case prototype brings measurement and storage together in a single sculptural desk object. Created as part of a private commission for a major international fashion house, it was developed during a three-piece men’s accessories project.

The form represents a stage of exploration in which utility, proportion and form were tested before final production decisions. It combines a ruler, storage case and desk object, with dual measurements in centimetres and inches. The lidded construction includes integrated compartments, allowing it to function as both a usable tool and a conceptual object.

Made from hallmarked British sterling silver with fitted rubber, the piece contains 117 grams of sterling silver. It dates from the 2000s–2010s and is in excellent condition.

Drawn from The JewelAri Compendium, it forms part of The Prototyparium, a group of early and experimental works where ideas first took shape in material. Produced during development rather than for general release, only a small number were made. It is suited to desk display, light use, and those interested in design process objects, industrial design and functional form.
