Sterling Silver Hand-Painted Enamel Hunting Pill Box

This is a sterling silver hinged pill box from Studio Variations, with an individually hand-painted enamel lid depicting a horse rider and hunting scene. Created circa the 1990s as part of Ari D. Norman’s hand-painted enamel giftware, it is made in England and bears English hallmarks.

The rounded, sculptural form is designed to rest comfortably in the hand. Its sterling silver body opens to a highly polished silver interior, while the enamel lid shows a mounted rider at full stride across rolling fields, hedgerows and winter trees.

Each enamel panel was painted by hand by skilled enamelling artists using traditional enamelling techniques. The decoration is neither printed nor transferred; each brushstroke was applied individually, giving every box subtle variation.

Originally intended as a pill or snuff box, it may also be used for rings, cufflinks, mementoes and other small treasures. The 1990s workshop series included sterling silver giftware with hand-painted enamel scenes inspired by British country pursuits, wildlife, sporting traditions and rural life.
